Rotary Slips
Rotary slips play a crucial role in handling tubulars at both onshore and offshore rigs, ensuring the secure grip of the tubulars during various operations. These slips are categorized based on the type and size of the tubular used, such as drill pipe slips, drill collar slips, tubing slips, and casing slips. These slips come in different models and load ratings to accommodate various sizes and depths of wells.
Spectrum offers three models of Rotary Slips/Drill Pipe Slips:
- Rotary Slips Short (SDS) – Load Rating: 100 Ton
- Rotary Slips Medium (SDML) – Load Rating: 150 Ton
- Rotary Slips Large (SDXL) – Load Rating: 250 Ton
These rotary slips are designed to fit standard API Insert Bowls or Slip Bowls, featuring an API taper of 4 inches per foot on the diameter. The slips are engineered to distribute the load evenly along their length, preventing bottlenecking damage to drill pipes. Spectrum prioritizes a balanced design with maximum load-carrying capacity and minimal weight, resulting in slips that are both strong and durable.
Spectrum holds a valid API-7K License for Rotary Slips, spanning the last 23 years. All Rotary Slips are manufactured in strict accordance with the latest edition of API-7K to meet and surpass quality standards, and they are supplied with the API-7K Monogram for certification.

- The slips are hardened and tempered to enhance their durability, increase their lifespan, and provide exceptional strength, which improves their resistance to wear and tear.
- These slips can be used in conjunction with slip bowls to fit 17.1/2″, 20.1/2″, 27.1/2″, and 37.1/2″ master bushings.
- The slips come with a taper of 4 inches per foot on the diameter, as per the API-7K specification.
- The inserts can be replaced at the rig site itself in a very short time by simply removing the locking arrangements and retainers.
